That idea suddenly makes the stakes much higher for what we do with our bodies and spirits, including sexual immorality. Perhaps surprisingly, what happens in our spirit affects His. We must develop our faith and trust to draw closer to Him. This witnessing is an inward proof of our salvation, assuring us that we are truly saved. Now Paul adds that Christians, those joined to the Lord, are spiritually united to Him. Our relationship with God is a spiritual one, not a physical body. As a result, we have a sweet sensation within that God is our dear Father, and that we are born of Him. He has shown that our bodies are more than just animal carcasses that will die and decay. The Spirit who resides in our spirit witnesses with our spirit that we are children of God. Paul is building the case for why it is so important for Christians to "flee from sexual immorality," as he will say in the following verse (1 Corinthians 6:18).
